Do you remember that nerdy kid in school who could draw? That was Philip Guinozzo, though he still doesn’t exactly know how to pronounce his own last name. His highly imaginative artwork has cropped up around New Orleans for decades in galleries and posters for countless local music bands, some of which he was a member. As a teenager, Philip was a student of the legendary New Orleans cartoonist John Chase. His work is satirically surreal and both whimsical and sometimes controversial. He has developed his own drawing and painting style and techniques, relying not on copying others but to create an alternate perspective to enthrall and captivate the viewer. Philip is still that nerdy kid, he’s just much better at it now.
